Before you can use the AI-powered features of VirtualSME to help you manage and monitor your network, you'll need to upload and organise the details of your infrastructure.
Seedfiles and Site IDs
Seedfiles are the foundation of device discovery in Virtual SME. You’ll need to create one or more seedfiles containing IP addresses, IP ranges and device type information as a first step.
Next, install the Collector Agent. The Collector Agent sits outside VirtualSME, and is where you manage the collection of Seedfiles.
Then, use the Collector Agent to upload the Seedfiles, ready for the collection process.
Part of the upload process is the creation of Site IDs. Site IDs are how you group together your devices in your infrastructure. You can then run processes or generate reports on groups of devices without individually selecting them.
Authentication Profiles
Each Site has to have an authentication profile associated with it. Before you can collect the Seedfiles, you'll need to have set up at least one authentication profile.
Collect the Device Configuration
Now you’ve uploaded your seedfile(s) and created your authentication profile(s), you’re ready to collect your device configuration(s).
For connected environments, automatic collection is recommended.
For air-gapped or firewalled environments, manual collection may be necessary.
