Seedfiles are the foundation of device discovery in Virtual SME. You’ll need to create one or more seedfiles containing IP addresses, IP ranges and device type information, and then upload them before you can use Virtual SME features.
Usually, seedfiles are in .csv format, but you can also use .txt, .json, .yml, .xml, .zip or .tar files.
You can download templates for each of these formats here:
Validation rules include:
- IP addresses format - make sure you use a valid IPv4 / IPv6 address, subnet or range.
- Device type - must be a supported vendor.
- Hostname - optional, but recommended for clarity.
Note: Virtual SME ignores duplicate entries.
When you’re ready, go to Upload Seedfiles.
