Menu option: Design > IPv6
Make sure that the Welcome tab, and then the IPv6 GUA tab is selected.
What is a Schema?
A schema is a way to segregate your network so that the IPv6 feature of VirtualSME can generate subnets for your devices.
You can segregate by geography, by function within your business, or you can customise the feature to match your own requirements. There is no limit on the number of levels you can have in the hierarchy, but remember that only those devices located at the bottom level of the hierarchy are allocated IPv6 addresses.
Set up a Schema
- Select a GUA Address Space. Only GUA address spaces will display.
- Click on New Schema. The following panes open:
-
Select an Allocation Method, from:
Geographic Hierarchy Defaults to the levels of Region, Country, Metro Area and Site. You can edit these level titles, or click on Add Level or Remove to add or remove levels. Functional Hierarchy Defaults to the levels of Service Type, Business Unit, Environment and Subnet. You can edit these level titles, or click on Add Level or Remove to add or remove levels. Simple Base Defaults to the levels of Location and Function. You can edit these level titles, or click on Add Level or Remove to add or remove levels. Hybrid Defaults to the levels of Region, Service Type, Site and Network Zone. You can edit these level titles, or click on Add Level or Remove to add or remove levels. Remember that only the lowest level can be allocated GUA subnets.
- In the Bits field for each level, enter the additional bit count that you want to allocate for the level. This is in added to the Prefix bit count. The bit count defaults to 4 for each level, and is cumulative across levels (an additional 4 for the first level, an additional 4 for the next level and so on). You can edit the bit count, if required.
- In the Allocation field for each level, enter the number of bits to be reserved for network addressing. The default is 16.
- Click on Save Schema.
